My F-150 is misfiring and running rough - could be coil packs again
I'm really hoping someone here has dealt with this before because I'm getting pretty frustrated with my 2015 Ford F-150 EcoBoost. It started a couple of weeks ago with a slight hesitation under acceleration, and now it's developed into a full-on misfire that's causing the check engine light to flash intermittently, which I know means it's a serious issue that could damage the catalytic converters if I keep driving it. The engine feels rough at idle and there's a noticeable lack of power when I'm trying to merge onto the highway. I've already replaced the spark plugs about 10,000 km ago, so I'm thinking it's probably one of the coil packs failing, which seems to be a common issue on these 3.5L engines. The problem is that I'm not sure which cylinder is misfiring without a proper diagnostic tool, and I don't want to just replace all six coil packs if only one or two are bad because that gets expensive fast. I took it to a general garage and they just cleared the codes without actually fixing anything, which was a complete waste of time and money. A colleague from work who has a Raptor mentioned that finding a specialist who can properly diagnose these EcoBoost engines is crucial, and he suggested Al Quoz diagnose Ford engine problems because there are independent shops in that area that deal with Fords all day and have the proper equipment to test each coil pack individually. Has anyone here had misfire issues on their EcoBoost F-150 and can tell me what the root cause was and what the fix ended up costing? I just want to get my truck running smoothly again without spending a fortune on unnecessary parts.
